Today Algeria is not considered to be in the Arab Spring that has been happening recently, although Algeria has been having strong protest at this time. Algeria has had food strikes and riots weekly. Social discontent has grown throughout the nation. In 2010 the country has had somwhere near 10,000 riots and protests. The Algerian government is getting weaker as we speak. We are not sure where this could be heading or what is to come.
Would this be called a revolution today?
Algeria has had many riots, protests, and strikes recently, but this shouldnt be considered a revolution yet. For a country to be considered to be in a revolution that country would have to have all parts of the country in protest. In Algeria there has only been parts of it that have rioted. It needs to have a full scale revolt for it to be consindered to be a revolution.
Current president: Abdelaziz Bouteflika
There has been some recent elections but Abdelaziz Bouteflika has won them since 1999 by alot of votes.
Today Algeria is facing many problems such as diversifying the economy, economic and finicial reforms, having problems to strengthen politically. Algeria also is struggling to fill unemployment especially now in the year of 2013.
